Preparing for Secondary School |
|
Transferring to Secondary School is an important and exciting stage in a pupil’s school career. For parents it is often a difficult and worrying time. Important decisions have to be made and parents are often uncertain about all the necessary procedures and choices available. To help you, we have gathered together the most relevant information in this section and hope it will be a guide for you. To make sure you meet the necessary closing dates etc. it is essential that you refer to the application procedures for your chosen schools — see the links to LEA (local education authority) and school websites in our Fact Files section. If you have any further questions you can contact your child’s head teacher, or the Admissions section of your LEA. You are also most welcome to contact us at YES If you need more information or advice about the transfer procedure or other educational matters like educational assessments, tuition, touch typing courses, or summer school. Click on the underlined section heading below for details — ► Local Education Authorities (LEAs) and the London-wide admissions process ► Finding the right school for my child ► Applying for a Secondary School place ► Guidelines for completing the application form ► I’m not happy with my offer: What are my options? ► Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs
(This information was correct as of May 22, 2010 but there may have been subsequent changes. The information about secondary education and the primary to secondary transfer procedure is relevant for children entering Year 6 in September 2010 and planning to start secondary school in September 2011. i.e. those born between September 1, 1999 and August 31, 2000).
